Master the Art of Sheet Drying on Your New Handy Line®
- by Ollie Taylor
Whether you're a seasoned pro or a first-time user, mastering the art of drying sheets on your Handy Line® will revolutionise your laundry routine. With a few simple tips and tricks, you'll have your sheets dried to perfection in no time.
When it comes to drying your laundry efficiently, placement is key. Larger items like sheets and towels should take centre stage on the inner lines of your Handy Line®. This ensures that they don't obstruct airflow, leading to quicker drying times. Meanwhile, smaller items like shirts and socks can occupy the outer lines, ensuring better weight distribution and overall efficiency.
Fold your sheet in half lengthwise (from top to end of the bed), and hang in one of three ways:
The Peggs U-Turn is a favourite when it comes to drying queen or king sheets – especially if you're short on time and want them folded and ready in one go.
This creates a tidy, doubled-over layout where both long sides of the sheet hang freely. When it’s dry, simply bring both pegged corners together, give it a shake, and you’ve practically folded the sheet as you take it off. Less creasing, less fuss, and you’re back to your day.
If airflow is the goal – and let’s be honest, that’s key to a quicker dry – the Sling Method is your best mate. Peg each corner of the sheet to opposite lines diagonally, so it creates a loose hammock shape in the middle. This suspended design keeps the fabric lifted and airy, letting the breeze work through the entire sheet from both sides.
To take it up a notch, lift and peg the long edges of the sheet slightly higher in the centre. This creates extra tension that helps avoid sagging and speeds up drying, even on cooler days. It’s perfect for cotton sheets or lighter bedding that need a bit of breathing room.
Big quilts, doonas and heavier sheets need a little extra support – and that’s where the Tent Method comes in handy. Simply drape your item right over the top of the Deluxe Handy Line®, letting it hang evenly on both sides like a tent. It uses all the lines at once, giving maximum coverage and allowing the bulk of the weight to be supported evenly across the frame.
To protect delicate materials or stop corners from getting caught or marked, pop a folded towel or tea towel underneath each corner of the Handy Line®. This little tip helps prevent pressure marks and prolongs the life of your bedding.
To speed up the drying process for bath towels, hang them horizontally on your Handy Line®. Bath sheets can be hung similarly to bed sheets, following any of the three methods mentioned above for optimal results.
You can easily re-tension your clothesline if the lines start to sag. Check out our video guide to see how. With these tips and tricks, drying your sheets on your new Handy Line® will become a breeze. Say hello to fresh, crisp sheets every time!
